Best Caribbean Act replaces Reggae; Skillibeng scores 2 MOBO nominations and more
Dancehall star Skillibeng has scored two nominations in the upcoming MOBO Awards copping nods for Best International Act and Best Caribbean Act.
The nominations announced on Friday (Nov 11), mark the second Best International Act Award for Skillibeng who was nominated last year, and a first in the category for Best Caribbean Act.
In the Best International Act category, Skillibeng who is the only Jamaican act listed among nominees, is vying for the coveted title along with the likes of Beyonce, Drake, Burna Boy, Chris Brown, Kendrick Lamar, Jack Harlow, Tems, and Summer Walker.
In a turn of events, the organizers of the MOBO Awards have replaced its original ‘Best Reggae Act’ category which was dedicated to the genre and first issued in 1996, with the Best Caribbean Act.
Jamaica is however the only Caribbean island represented in the category with Skillibeng, Sean Paul, PopCaan, Shenseea, Spice, and Koffee going up for the Best Caribbean Act.
The ceremony, which celebrates music of Black origin, will host its 25th-anniversary edition at the OVO Arena Wembley in London on Wednesday, November 30.
