A dramatic middle-order collapse derailed the West Indies Women’s chase as Bangladesh secured a 60-run victory in the second One-Day International at Warner Park on Tuesday, leveling the three-match series at 1-1.

Chasing a target of 184, the West Indies’ batting line-up faltered under pressure. After losing key players early, including captain Hayley Matthews (18), Qiana Joseph (6), and Deandra Dottin (2), the Windies found themselves in deep trouble at 44 for 3. The situation worsened when, just six overs later, they slumped to 64 for 7, losing four wickets for a mere 8 runs before they were eventually dismissed for 124.

Shemaine Campbell was the top scorer for the Windies with 28 runs, while Cherry-Ann Fraser remained unbeaten on 18. Bangladesh’s Nahida Akter was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 wickets for 31 runs, leading her team to a comprehensive victory and their first win against West Indies in any format.

Earlier in the day, Bangladesh posted 184 all out in 49 overs after being sent in to bat. West Indies’ bowlers Karishma Ramharack (4 for 33) and Aaliyah Alleyne (3 for 24) were the standout performers, with Deandra Dottin (1 for 8), Cherry-Ann Fraser (1 for 25), and Afy Fletcher (1 for 36) contributing to the effort.

Bangladesh’s captain Nigar Sultana Joty top-scored with 68 runs, hitting 5 fours along the way. Shorna Akter provided support with a knock of 21, but the team could not build a substantial partnership as they were bowled out in the 49th over.

With the series now tied at 1-all, the West Indies Women will face Bangladesh in the third and final match on Friday, where both teams will be aiming to record a decisive victory.

Bangladesh, who are seventh on the ODI Women’s Championship table with 21 points, will overtake sixth place New Zealand (21 points) to gain direct qualification to their maiden ODI World Cup.

The Windies are ninth with 16 points and are out of the running for direct entry and will have to go through the ODI World Cup qualifiers.
