Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto ruled out West Indies test series
Bangladesh has suffered another big setback ahead of their upcoming test series against the West Indies.
Captain Najmul Hossain who will miss the one day international series decider against Afghanistan due to a groin injury, will also be unavailable for the West Indies two test series which gets underway later this month.
Najmul sustained the injury while fielding in the second One Day International that forced him to leave the field at one point with mehidy hasan taking up the responsibility of leading the side.
Najmul played a crucial role in the second game as his knock of 76 helped Bangladesh level the series.
The BCB’s senior physician Dr. Debashis chowdhury has confirmed a grade ii strain on his left groin, which will require a period of rest and rehabilitation.
Chowdhury adds that they will reassess Najmul’s condition after two weeks, while revealing that he will return home from the United Arab Emirates to continue his rehab.”
Mehidy will lead Bangladesh in the third game against Afghanistan and he is also expected to lead the test side in West Indies in Najmul’s absence.
Bangladesh are already without Mushfiqur Rahim in the ongoing one day international series and the veteran will not be a part of the test squad to play in the Caribbean as well.
Following the two tests, Bangladesh will also play three One Day Internationals and three T20 internationals against the West Indies.
