Authorities to meet with public transport stakeholders today to address concerns impacting the sector
At least one transport group is not optimistic, that there will be a favorable outcome, from a stakeholders meeting today.
President of the All Voice Transportation group, Lorraine Oscar Finnikin, says that based on previous meetings, he does not expect today’s meeting to be fruitful.
Representatives of the Transport Authority, Police and Island Traffic Authority will meet with Operators.
The Operators are upset about the move to suspend Drivers’ Licences, under the demerit points system, for certain infractions under the Road Traffic Act .
Yesterday, scores of Operators across the Island withdrew their services.
Many commuters were left stranded.
Mr. Finnikin notes that he did not organise the strike, but understands the operators’ plight.
He says based on the outcome of other meetings on the Sector, he is not very optimistic about today’s meeting.
