Top performers vie for coveted Marcus Garvey Award for Excellence in Performing Arts

The JCDC Marcus Garvey Awards for Excellence in Performing Arts will be held tomorrow, October 1.

The awards, set to recognize outstanding individuals, schools and other groups will be held at the Little Theatre in St Andrew.

The ceremony is scheduled to commence at 11:00 am and will be hosted by the Culture and Entertainment Minister, Olivia Grange, with the keynote speaker being Education and Youth Minister, Fayval Williams.

The awards will celebrate outstanding performers and teachers who have made invaluable contributions in the national performing arts competitions from schools or groups which emerged with the most points from its participation in the Festival of the Performing Arts competitions staged earlier this year by the JCDC.

This year’s nominees are twelve-time title holders, Ardenne High School, eleven-time winners, St Jago High, first-time nominee Godfrey Stewart Performing Arts Society from Westmoreland; and returning nominees, Green Island High School from Hanover and the Port Antonio Theatre Group.
