Irwin High School mourns tragic passing of Grade 7 student

It was not business as usual for students and staff at Irwin High School in Montego Bay, St. James, today, as the school community mourns the passing of Grade 7 student, Deanna Salmon.

Deanna was struck by a Montego Bay Metro bus just outside the school’s compound yesterday.

She was rushed to Cornwall Regional Hospital, where she later passed away.

Speaking with IRIE FM News, school principal Victor Newsome said trauma teams were brought in to provide support today.

Mr. Newsome expressed that both staff and students are struggling to cope with the tragedy.

Mr. Newsome noted that support is also being extended to Deanna’s family during this difficult time.
