Trinidad and Tobago’s Police Service Commission has written to Police Commissioner Erla Harewood-Christopher requesting that she “cease to report for duty”, until further notice.
The police commissioner was released from custody on Sunday after she was arrested last Thursday in relation to the importation of two sniper rifles for the country’s Strategic Services Agency in 2023.
The commission’s letter noted that the action against Harewood-Christopher had become necessary, as the matter was still being investigated.
In the interim, it has nominated Deputy Commissioner of Police Junior Benjamin to act as Commissioner of Police and Assistant Commissioner of Police Curt Simon to act as Deputy Commissioner.
