TAJ mandates online filing for tax objections starting July 1

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) says effective Tuesday, July 1, all objections to notices of assessments must be filed online via the eServices portal at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm.

TAJ states that the move is part of its continued efforts to improve efficiency and service delivery through increased use of digital tools.

This it says, will allow for faster processing, communication, and response times for both taxpayers and the authority.

Taxpayers who wish to object to a notice of assessment must do so within 30 days of the date the notice was served and are responsible for proving that the assessment is incorrect or erroneous.

The authority further explained that objections must clearly state the specific grounds on which they are being made and supporting documentation must be provided upon request.

A signed letter of objection is also required and must be uploaded through the taxpayer’s eServices account.

This online process applies to all tax types subject to assessment, including:

  • Corporate and individual income tax,
  • General consumption tax (GCT),
  • Special consumption tax (SCT),
  • Assets tax
