An 80-year-old woman was killed in a suspected arson attack at her home in St. Ann, yesterday. 

Dead is Slyvia Barrett, a vendor of Spring Gardens in Bamboo. 

Reports are that at about 6:15 pm, relatives saw fire coming from Barrett’s house and alerted the fire brigade and police.

Residents also made efforts to put out the blaze.

Following cooling down operations by firefighters, Barrett was found in the house unconscious.

Her hands and feet were bound with electrical wires and pieces of clothing.

She was taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Investigations continue.
