Opposition Leader Mark Golding says the People’s National Party (PNP) is back and stronger than ever.
Mr. Golding was on a campaign tour in South West St. Elizabeth.
He told supporters that the local government election is a referendum on the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) government.
Meanwhile, the PNP says it will secure all the seats in Eastern Westmoreland in the local government election on February 26.
PNP General Secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell, says the party’s victory is being projected, based on the results of a recent poll.
In a statement today, he said the party has completed polls in nine of the fourteen Westmoreland divisions and according to the results, it will sweep all seats in Eastern Westmoreland – Whitehouse, Darliston, Leamington, and Bethel Town.
He stated that in all seats, the PNP had double-digit leads.
According to Dr. Campbell the party leads comfortably in three of the five divisions in central Westmoreland.
He added that of the nine divisions polled, the party leads in seven.
Dr. Campbell said the PNP will complete polls in the divisions in Western Westmoreland shortly.
He noted however, that while the party is pleased with the polls, members and electors should not be complacent.
