Government intends to have 4 new protected areas declared under the Natural Resources Conservation Act (NRCA).
The announcement was made yesterday by Environment Minister, Matthew Samuda during a town hall meeting.
A protected area is a clearly defined land or water area managed for conserving ecological systems, biodiversity, and natural, cultural, or aesthetic resources.
Mr. Samuda identified the four areas as: Canoe Valley, Montpelier, Industry Cove and Bengal, which will expand the current 25% of designated protected land.
