Reggae Boys to face United States in group ‘a’ at the upcoming 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup

Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz have been selected alongside defending champions United States in group ‘A’ at the upcoming 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup.

The match-up was set in stone at the draw for the 17th edition of the biennial tournament held at the So-Fi Stadium in Inglewood, California yesterday and which was attended by national coach Heimir Hallgrimson.

The group stage which takes place between June 24 and July 4 is being contested by 16 teams divided into 4 groups……with the final scheduled for July 16.

As well as Jamaica and the United states, group ‘a’ also features Nicaragua and a yet to be decided qualifier….Curacao, St. Kitts and Nevis, French Guiana or St. Maarten.

In assessing the draw, coach Hallgrimson, while aware of the threat posed by the United States, says it will be a good measuring stick.

As for the remaining teams Hallgrimson says work will be done to ensure his team is ready 

Group ‘B’ in the meantime includes many time champions Mexico, Haiti, Honduras and Asian champions and guest nation Qatar……with group ‘C’ to be contested by Costa Rica, Panama, El Salvador and either Martinique, St. Lucia, Suriname or Puerto Rico. 

Over in group ‘D’ former winners Canada are the seeded team and will face Guatemala, Cuba and one of Trinidad and Tobago, Guadeloupe, Guyana or Grenada who will enter the Gold Cup cup qualifiers which gets underway on June 16 and features 2 direct elimination rounds.
