An annual scholarship to a Herbert Morrison High School student valued at JMD$37,000 in the memory of the late sports Journalist Hubert Lawrence  is  among  the  new  initiatives unveiled   for  the second staging of the Run for the Republic Development Track and Field Meet,  next  Saturday  January  18   at  Herbert  Morrison  Technical  high  school.

Meet  organiser  Aubrey  Campbell  has  revealed  that  the   move  is  a  show  of  gratitude  to  the  Herbert  Morrison  High School administration for  their partnership.

The  annual  scholarship  will  be  targeted a student/athlete in grade 10 or grade 12.

The  meet  put on by Comets Track and Field club international will  see  the  separation  of  the Preparatpry and Primary athletes after combining them in 2024 – each team will be limited to three athletes per school per event and one relay team. 

Also  among  the  new  initiatives  announced  by  Campbell is  the  replacement  of  the  high school girls 400meters with a 100meters race while the 4x400m relay will be  an open event.

The class 1 boys 800 meters will be replaced by the 400meters and the high school girls class two 200meters race is replaced by a 400 meters race.
