That’s according to Senior Lecturer in early childhood education at the University of the West Indies Dr. Zoyah Kinkead – Clark. 

Dr. Clark made the revelation on day one of the Jamaica Teacher’s Association Early Childhood Education Conference, yesterday. 

She said of the approximately 11,000 early childhood educators, just over 4-thousand are trained to the minimum diploma level. 

She said this means that for every one hundred children, there is one trained teacher. 

Dr. Clark said this must be corrected to improve the sector.
