Attorney representing accused in Barbara Gayle murder case, not surprised that the prosecution is seeking the death penalty
One of the lawyers representing Travis Ellis, who is charged with the murder of veteran journalist Barbara Gayle said he is not surprised that the death penalty is being sought for his client.
Speaking with IRIE FM News, Donahue Martin said he received the death penalty notice from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions this morning, when the case was brought up in the Home Circuit Court.
The attorney noted that the documents are being reviewed by Ellis’ legal team.
Donahue Martin, attorney representing Travis Ellis, the man charged with the murder of veteran journalist Barbara Gayle, stated that he is not surprised the death penalty is being sought for his client.
Ellis, who is also represented by King’s Counsel Tom Tavares-Finson, has been further remanded until May 26.
77-year-old Gayle was killed at her Caymanas Country Club home in St. Catherine last month.
She was reportedly hit in the head and stabbed several times.
Ellis was apprehended sometime after the incident.
Police also recovered Gayle’s stolen car and cell phone.
In addition to Gayle’s murder, Ellis is charged with robbery with aggravation in relation to the incident.
