ATHLOS to honour Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce in New York City
ATHLOS, the American-based all-women professional track and field event, will pay tribute to Jamaican sprint legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce at its season-opening meet this Friday, October 10, at Icahn Stadium in New York City.
The special recognition comes just days after Fraser-Pryce officially announced her retirement from athletics, closing the curtain on an extraordinary 18-year career that produced 25 global medals, including three Olympic golds and 10 World Championship titles.
In a statement, the organizers expressed their admiration for the iconic Jamaican sprinter, saying:
“Athlos honors Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, celebrating a lifetime of speed, excellence, and legacy.”
Founded by Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, Athlos was created to celebrate and elevate women’s excellence in track and field by offering top-tier competition, visibility, and financial rewards.
The 2025 edition will feature an elite line-up of athletes, including Jamaicans Megan Tapper and Natoya Goule-Toppin, alongside global stars such as Tara Davis-Woodhall, Faith Kipyegon, and Masai Russell. Athletes will compete across a range of events—from the 100 metres to the mile, as well as the long jump.
Each race will offer over US$100,000 in prize money, with US$60,000 going to the winner, underscoring the event’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding female athletes at the highest level.
Fraser-Pryce’s tribute segment is expected to be one of the highlights of the meet, celebrating a career that redefined global sprinting and inspired generations of athletes worldwide.
