Aspiring St Ann NE MP Matthew Samuda says JLP would win by-election with a 4000 margin if PNP contests poll

Aspiring Member of Parliament, Matthew Samuda has declared that the Jamaica Labour Party would win the by-election in North East St. Ann with a margin of at least 4000 if the People’s National Party contested the poll.

Mr. Samuda made the declaration, while speaking at a worker’s meeting in St. Ann’s Bay on Sunday afternoon.

The statement follows the prime minister’s announcement of a by-election in the constituency previously held by Marsha Smith.

Ms. Smith resigned last week.

Over the four years she served as MP, she faced mounting calls for her removal and several protests.

Mr. Samuda, who is the JLP candidate, has noted that he has been working in the constituency for at least a year and believes he would easily secure the victory over the PNP’s Dr. Ryan Simpson.

Meantime, Mr Samuda said he is committed to rebuilding the legacy and relationship that the late MP Shahine Robinson had with her constituents.

Nomination day for the St Ann North East by-election is this Wednesday, September 11, while election day is set for September 30.
