Bouwahjie Nkrumie wins silver in men’s 100 metres at CAC Games

Bouwahjie Nkrumie landed the first medal for Jamaica in track and field at the 25th Central American and Caribbean Games in the Dominican Republic, as Jamaica jumped to joint 17th on the medal table.
The former Kingston College star won the silver medal in the men’s 100 metres final last evening, clocking 10.17 seconds to finish behind Ronal Longa of Colombia, who won in 10.06 seconds.
In the women’s 100 metres final, Krystal Sloley finished seventh in 11.38 seconds.
The mixed 4×400 metres relay team of Demar Francis, Janielle Josephs, Kimar Farquarson, and Tonyan Beckford also failed to reach the medals, finishing sixth in 3 minutes, 23.66 seconds.
Lushane Wilson also missed out on a medal in the men’s high jump, placing fifth with a clearance of 2.17 metres.
In the meantime, Malik James-King topped the field in the men’s 400 metres hurdles, posting 49.30 seconds to advance to the final, along with Romario Stewart, who recorded a time of 49.77 seconds to finish second in his heat.
Meanwhile, Jamaica’s young netballers opened their account at the Games yesterday with a 67–12 hammering of hosts, the Dominican Republic.
The Young Sunshine Girls, led by Kellian Hunter’s 27 goals from 34 attempts, will be back in action later today against Bermuda.
