Arrival of 120 more linesmen to boost power restoration in storm-hit areas
With the arrival of another 120 linesmen today the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) will greatly improve their ability to restore power to more storm ravaged areas.
Energy Minister Daryl Vaz has again relayed the commitment of the JPS that effort is being made to have 90% restoration by the end of this month and 100% by the end of January.
Speaking at a press briefing yesterday, Vaz noted that as of Monday, December 15 restoration was at 84%.
He explained that the additional linesmen will be deployed to the parishes hard hit by hurricane Melissa.
He noted that some heavy duty equipment is due to arrive in a few days.
Among the areas that should have power restored by Christmas are: St. Catherine, St. Mary, Portland, Manchester and St. Ann.
