Arnett Gardens prevail in 8-goal thriller against Tivoli Gardens in Jamaica Premier League
Arch-rivals Arnett Gardens and Tivoli Gardens delivered an unforgettable spectacle in the final fixture of Match Day 22 in the Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League on Monday.
In a pulsating eight-goal thriller at the Stadium East Complex, the Xavier Gilbert-led Arnett Gardens made a stunning comeback to claim a 5-3 victory, thanks to a remarkable hat-trick from substitute Warner Brown.
Tivoli Gardens, who are guided by Jerome Waite, had the upper hand early, going 3-1 up at one point. Nickalia Fuller opened the scoring in the 24th minute for Tivoli, and Roshawn Oldfield (37’) and Tkiven Garnett (47’) extended their lead.
However the ‘Junglists’ responded through Shaquille Jones in the 27th minute, before a controversial penalty in the 71st minute gave Warner Brown the chance to complete his hat-trick and give them the lead. Fabian Reid later scored a dramatic second-half injury-time goal to seal the victory and complete the thrilling comeback.
The victory lifted Arnett Gardens into second place on the league table with 44 points, leapfrogging Montego Bay United, who now sit third, just a point behind. Tivoli Gardens, who ended the match with 10 men, drop to 8th place on 27 points and are now winless in four games
Meanwhile, defending champions Cavalier returned to winning ways, defeating Vere United 2-1. Goals from Jalmaro Calvin and Shaquille Stein secured the victory for Cavalier who are 5th on 37 points, while Kevaun Atkinson scored for Vere, who suffered their 13th defeat of the season and remain second from bottom on 17 points.
Mount Pleasant, despite suffering a shock 2-1 defeat to Harbour View on Sunday, continues to lead the table with 52 points.
