Arnett Gardens goalkeeper rushed to hospital after stabbing incident following West Kingston derby against Tivoli Gardens

Arnett Gardens goalkeeper, Roje Williams, was rushed to the hospital on Monday night after being stabbed following his team’s goalless draw against rivals Tivoli Gardens in the Jamaica Premier League. The incident occurred after the match at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex, during which Williams allegedly became involved in an altercation with a woman said to be his girlfriend, leading to the violent attack.

Williams, who joined Arnett Gardens at the start of the current season after a stint with Vere United, was reported to have lost consciousness following the stabbing. He was quickly transported to the hospital where he is receiving treatment.

The match itself ended in a scoreless draw, a result that leaves Arnett Gardens in third place on the standings and two points behind second-place Mobay United, who are in the crucial automatic semifinal spot with 69 points.

For Tivoli Gardens, the result marked another disappointing setback. Under the management of Jerome Waite, Tivoli slipped out of the playoff spots, now in seventh place with 48 points. They find themselves level with eighth-place Racing United, who earlier on Monday secured a dominant 3-0 win over Chapelton Maroons. Goals from Javaughn Cole, Nickyle Ellis, and Tajay Grant propelled Racing United to victory, intensifying the competition for the last playoff spot.

Meanwhile Mount Pleasant hammered Harbour View 3-0 on Sunday to extend their lead at the top of the table to 75 points. Mobay United also secured an impressive 4-0 victory over Dunbeholden, further solidifying their position. Other results from the weekend included Waterhouse’s 1-0 win over Molynes United, Portmore United’s 1-0 victory over Humble Lion, and defending champions Cavalier’s 3-1 triumph against Vere United.

As the season heads into the final stretch, the race for playoff spots remains competitive, and the relegation battle is heating up. Only four points separate the teams from 9th to 13th place. Chapelton Maroons currently hold the 9th spot on goal difference, tied with Dunbeholden on 33 points. Harbour View and Humble Lion are close behind with 32 points, while Molynes United are second from bottom with 29 points. Vere United, in a tough position, sit at the foot of the table with just 23 points.
