Arnett Gardens close gap on leaders Mount Pleasant with narrow win over Harbour View
Second place Arnett Gardens have narrowed the gap at the top of the Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League standings to just four points after a gritty 1-0 victory over Harbour View on Match Day 26.
The win, secured at the Harbour View Mini Stadium, propelled ‘The Junglists’ to 51 points from 24 matches, just behind leaders Mount Pleasant, who remain on 55 points but have a game in hand.
The lone goal of the match came in the 23rd minute, with Jaheim Thomas finding the back of the net to seal the three points for Arnett Gardens. The victory marked their fourth win in four outings and extended their unbeaten streak to six overall matches.
Defending champions Cavalier, meanwhile, continued their push for a higher position, moving up to 4th place on 41 points after a dominant 3-0 win over Molynes United in the opening game at of the double header at ‘The Compound’. The victory was secured thanks to a second-half brace, starting with an own goal by Molynes United’s Jason Wright in the 52nd minute. Justin Dunn (64’) and Richard King (87’) added their names to the score sheet to ensure Cavalier took all three points. Molynes United, still winless in their last four games, remain in the lower half of the table in 10th place on 23 points.
In another key encounter, Racing United fought back to earn a 1-1 draw against Portmore United at Ferdie Neita Park. Portmore had initially taken the lead in the 30th minute through Cardel Benbow, but Racing United responded in dramatic fashion with an equalizer from Nickyle Ellis in the 89th minute, just a minute before full-time. As a result, Racing United remains in 7th place on 30 points, while Portmore United dropped a spot to 5th, now sitting on 40 points.
Dunbeholden continued their strong recent form with a narrow 1-0 victory over Waterhouse, courtesy of an 87th-minute strike from Damion Binns. The win propelled Dunbeholden to 9th place, as they now sit on 34 points, while Waterhouse remain in the 6th and final playoff spot on 34 points, with a draw and 4 losses to show in their last 5 games
The day’s action at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex saw Vere United take a 1-0 lead after 15 minutes through Denzel McKenzie. However, Chapelton Maroons responded in the dying moments of the match, with Andrew Vanzie scoring in the first minute of second-half stoppage time to earn his team a point. The result keeps both teams in the relegation fight, with Vere United second to last on 19 points and Chapelton Maroons in 11th place on 23.

Match Day 26 will come to a close on Monday with a thrilling double-header at the Catherine Hall Sports Complex. The first game, set for 5:00 PM, will see Mount Pleasant, the league leaders, back in action as they look to record back-to-back victories. The Ann-based team will take on bottom of the table Humble Lion, who have gone 5 consecutive games without tasting victory.
In the late game at 7:45 PM, Montego Bay United, now under interim coach Dillon Thelwell following the departure of head coach Rudolfo Zapata, will take on Tivoli Gardens. Montego Bay United, currently 3rd on 45 points, are aiming to secure one of two automatic semi-final spots, while Tivoli, sitting in 8th place with 28 points, will need to step up to remain in the hunt for a playoff spot.
