Arnett Gardens appoints Philip Williams as new head coach ahead of CFU Club Shield title defense
Five-time Jamaica Premier League champions Arnett Gardens FC has announced Philip Williams as their new head coach. The experienced tactician will assume his duties with immediate effect as the team begins preparations for the upcoming CFU Club Shield tournament, set to take place in Trinidad from July 26 to August 3, 2025.
Williams steps into the role following the departure of Xavier Gilbert, who guided the team to back-to-back third-place finishes in the league over the past two seasons and led them to CFU Club Shield success in 2024. Gilbert was recently named head coach of Montego Bay United, with that announcement made just one week prior.
Williams brings a wealth of experience to Arnett Gardens, having previously managed three top-tier clubs in the Jamaica Premier League — Tivoli Gardens, Portmore United, and Dunbeholden FC. Notably, he led Portmore United to victory in the 2023 Lynk Cup, a knockout tournament featuring teams from both the Jamaica Premier League and Tier II competition.
His appointment comes at a crucial juncture, with Arnett Gardens looking to defend their CFU Club Shield title and mount a strong challenge in the upcoming Jamaica Premier League season.
