Some 50 Jamaicans whose houses were destroyed by Beryl to get gov’t grants today

Approximately fifty Jamaicans whose houses were destroyed by Hurricane Beryl last month, are to receive grants from the government today, to assist with rebuilding efforts.

The grants which range in value from $50,000 to $400,000 are being issued by the Ministry of Social Security, through a one billion dollar relief programme.

The homes of those set to benefit, were assessed and their need for assistance was verified.

Speaking during the recent handing over of homes, under the Social Housing Programme in Clarendon Prime Minister Andrew Holness said the government is hoping to issue all the grants within a month.

The disbursement of grants is set to commence at 10 a.m., at the office of the Ministry of Social Security, in Down Town, Kingston.
