Anthony B Speaks Out Against Coopers Pen Demolitions

Written byK'Shema Francis-Pitt

Coopers Pen brings tears to my eyes,” says Trelawny native Anthony B.

Entertainer Anthony B has expressed shock and anger following the demolition of more than 20 homes in Coopers Pen, Trelawny, which left several families displaced.

Anthony B shared a post on Instagram reacting to the demolitions, describing the situation as heartbreaking and questioning what he sees as a lack of compassion for the affected families.

The demolitions took place during a pre-dawn operation on Tuesday involving bulldozers, tractors and sledgehammers, as residents watched their homes being reduced to rubble.

While acknowledging that they had no legal claim to the property, some residents said they were unclear about its true ownership and claimed they were not given adequate warning ahead of the demolition.

Some of those affected reportedly said they had been living on the property for more than 30 years.

Anthony B, who hails from the Trelawny area, expressed his disappointment over the situation, saying the images of families losing their homes brought tears to his eyes.

Meanwhile, Trelawny Northern Member of Parliament Tova Hamilton, who visited the site, has promised assistance for the displaced families.

The situation has sparked widespread discussion and raised several questions, including who ordered the demolitions, whether proper procedures were followed, what assistance will be provided to the displaced families, and whether residents had ignored previous calls to vacate the property.
