Almost dramatic fall-off in business and consumer confidence recorded in 2025 fourth quarter

There was an almost dramatic fall-off in business and consumer confidence  levels in the October to December 2025 quarter.

Executive Chairman of Market Research Services Limited Don Anderson made the disclosure at the Jamaica Chamber of  Commerce/GK Capital Business and Consumer Confidence Indices, 4th Quarter briefing this morning.

He said consumer confidence fell from an all time high of 198.7 points in the June to September quarter, when Jamaicans were optimistic and anticipating the general election.

Mr. Anderson said consumer confidence fell to 164 points in the fourth quarter.

He noted that business confidence was also high in the third quarter and fell by over 7 percentage points.

Mr. Anderson explained that due to the devastating impacts of Hurricane Melissa which made landfall in October, last year, researchers were unable to conduct many interviews in hard hit western parishes.

He said this means the margin error of the study is higher, but the data is still valid.
