Alleged associate of wanted man slapped with gun related charges
An alleged associate of a wanted man has been slapped with several gun related charges, following a confrontation with police in St. Thomas on Tuesday.
He is 21 year old Shavaun Davis of Bottom Yard, in Bath.
Davis was in the company of 33 year old Orville Dennie, otherwise called ‘Marvin’ of Airy Castle Road, Stony Hill in St. Andrew, on Tuesday.
Dennie was fatally shot during the confrontation with the police in Port Morant.
He was wanted for murder by the St. Andrew north police division.
Reports are that officers acting on information mounted a vehicular check point aimed at apprehending Dennie.
The men were seen travelling on a motor cycle and Davis was signaled to stop by the police, however he did not comply.
Dennie then reportedly pulled a handgun from his waistband and opened gunfire at the police.
The officers took evasive action and a shootout ensued.
Dennie and Davis dismounted the motorcycle and ran.
After the shooting subsided, Dennie was found suffering from gunshot wounds.
Dennie was assisted to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
One Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol was seized during the incident.
As for Davis, he was chased by the police and apprehended.
Following a question and answer session, Davis was charged with, use of a firearm to commit a felony, shooting with intent, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession of ammunition, escaping from a conveyance, as well as failure to comply with a request by a constable to stop and search a conveyance.
Davis is scheduled to appear before the St. Thomas parish court next Friday, February 21.
