Alana Reid Joins Hurdle Mechanics Training Group at University of Arkansas
World Under-20 100m champion Alana Reid has joined the Hurdle Mechanics Training Group that is based at the University of Arkansas.
Reid, a former standout at Hydel High School in Jamaica, gained recognition as one of the fastest young sprinters on the global stage after running a jaw-dropping 10.92 seconds to win gold at the ISSA Boys & Girls Championships in 2023 and further solidified her status as a future contender in the sport by winning two gold medals – including the 100m – at the 2024 World Athletics Under-20 Championship in Lima.
In her new training environment, Reid will be working alongside several prominent Jamaican athletes, including Ackera Nugent and Nikisha Pryce under the guidance of Lawrence Johnson.
The camp also boasts a stellar roster of international athletes, such as Alexis Holmes, Amber Anning, Anna Cockrell, and Dalilah Muhammad, a multiple-time Olympic medallist and World Champion in the 400-meter hurdles.
Previously, Reid trained alongside reigning world 100m champion Sha’Carri Richardson at the Florida-based Star Athletics outfit under coach Dennis Mitchell.
She was also part of the Jamaica 4X100m relay team at the 2024 Paris Olympics in August.
