Agriculture Ministry undertaking rapid assessment of poultry industry, following reports of chicken shortage
The Agriculture Ministry is undertaking a rapid assessment of the poultry industry, following reports of a chicken shortage.
Portfolio Minister Floyd Green says the report of the findings is to be submitted tomorrow.
He says the authorities have been monitoring the marketplace in relation to the supply of chicken. Some 300,000 birds were lost during Hurricane Beryl in July.
Mr. Green points out that the ministry has been working with chicken producers to get small farmers back to production.
He says 57,000 broiler chicks have been distributed.
The Agriculture Minister says he will meet with stakeholders in the poultry sector following receipt of the assessment report.
