Agriculture Ministry to hold meeting next week amidst concern over reduced egg production levels

Amidst continued concern over Jamaica’s egg production levels, Agriculture Minister, Floyd Green has signaled his intent to meet with his team next week to assess and determine the way forward.

Inconsistent egg supply has been affecting consumers, especially since the passage of Hurricane Beryl on July 3 last year.

Several vendors have reported declines in supply.

Earlier this month, a popular supermarket in St. Ann noted that reduction levels moved from 50 cases or 30 dozen eggs each week to only 10 cases.

Providing an update to IRIE FM News, Mr. Green acknowledged the continued concern over the supply levels, adding that there are still challenges with the sourcing of layer birds.

Mr. Green stressed that with demand expected to increase during the upcoming festive period, the necessary initiatives must be implemented.
