Agriculture ministry assures that it continues to seek removal of GCT on eggs
State Minister for Agriculture, Franklin Witter is reassuring the Jamaica Egg Farmers Association that the ministry continues to advocate for the removal of General Consumption Tax, (GCT), on eggs.
Mr. Witter says he is aware of the farmers’ concerns and that their voices have been heard.
Last year, Minister of Agriculture Floyd Green said the issue of the removal of GCT from eggs had been placed before then Minister of Finance Dr. Nigel Clarke.
Speaking at the Egg Farmers Annual General Meeting in Ocho Rios St Ann yesterday, Mr. Witter said he and Mr. Green, will continue the advocacy by making the necessary representation to the finance ministry.
Mr. Witter said removing GCT will not just benefit farmers, but also consumers.
