Agricultural Protection Branch appeals to farmers to report all incidents of theft
As the police’s Agricultural Protection Branch (APB) increases efforts to curb the activities of praedial larcenists, an appeal is being made to farmers to report all incidents of theft.
According to APB Commander, Assistant Commissioner Oral Pascoe, farmers are reluctant to make reports because they have little confidence in the police addressing the issue.
However, Commander Pascoe, whose team concluded a tour in St. Ann yesterday, told IRIE FM News that while he acknowledges the past issues relating to police-farmer interactions, the newly-established APB is working to fix the problem.
He stressed that it is in the farmers’ best interest to report agricultural theft, as it will help the APB build the intelligence needed to apprehend praedial larcenists and ultimately prevent the illegal activity.
In the meantime, the Commander is urging farmers to register their animals to make it easier for Government agencies to provide support.
