Advocacy group calls for protection of human rights for International Human Rights Day
As Jamaica observes International Human Rights Day today, there is a call for government, public and private institutions and agencies to set up a system of accountability and good governance to ensure and protect the human rights of Jamaicans.
Stand Up for Jamaica is affirming its commitment to championing these ideals, ensuring that every citizen has the opportunity to live a life of dignity, free from discrimination, and with access to justice and equality.
The group calls on the country to take a moment to recognize the progress made while acknowledging the challenges that lie ahead.
It adds that by working together, an environment can be created where human rights are not just a concept but a lived reality for everyone.
The human rights group states that many matters need to be addressed and it is determined to advocate, work and network with all those sharing the same vision.
