Additional races added at Brussels Diamond League to honour Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone

Olympic champion Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone will be allowed to compete at the Diamond League final in Brussels.

The revelation by meet organizers comes after the Diamond League had determined that McLaughlin-Levrone was ineligible to compete in the Diamond League final as a “Global Wild Card” primarily because she had not competed at any of the other Diamond League meets this season.

Memorial Van Damme meet organizers have added two races to the schedule for her to race. She will not be part of the Diamond League final.

Meet organizers issued a statement clarifying the situation.

“To avoid any confusion or misunderstanding, we do confirm that 400m hurdles Olympic champion Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone will be competing at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme, but not as part of the Wanda Diamond League Final races,” the statement said.

“To honour Sydney’s remarkable achievements, including her unforgettable 400m hurdles world record in Paris, we’ve added two special races.”

The announcement means McLaughlin-Levrone – the 400mH world record holder and Olympic champion – will participate in a unique 400m-200m double in Brussels.

“She will run 400m on Friday (September 13) at 7:53 pm and 200m on Saturday (September 14) at 7:53pm,” the organizers said.
