Ackera Nugent set to renew rivalry with Grace Stark at Paris Diamond League meeting

Jamaican sprint hurdler and national record holder Ackera Nugent is set to rekindle her rivalry with American Grace Stark in the women’s 100 metres hurdles at the eighth stop of the 2024 Wanda Diamond League, scheduled for this Friday in Paris.

Nugent, fresh off a strong second-place finish at the Stockholm meet, narrowly lost to Stark in their last showdown. Stark edged her out in 12.33 seconds, with Nugent finishing just behind in 12.37—her second-fastest time of the season.

The race in Paris promises to be one of the most competitive yet, featuring a world-class field. Among the top contenders is Nigerian star and world record holder Tobi Amusan, who boasts a season-best 12.45 seconds. Also lining up are Dutch hurdler Nadine Visser, who finished third behind Stark and Nugent in Stockholm, former world record holder Kendra Harrison of the U.S., and Bahamian talent Devynne Charlton.

The highly anticipated sprint hurdles clash is set to go off at 3:20 PM Jamaica time.

Jamaica will also be represented by Jordan Scott, the current Diamond League leader in the men’s triple jump. Scott will aim to continue his strong run when the final of that event begins at 12:50 PM Jamaica time.

In other key events, the women’s 400 metres will see a blockbuster matchup between Olympic champion Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic and 2019 world champion Salwa Eid Naser of Bahrain. Naser enters the event as the current world leader with a blistering 48.67-second performance at the Grand Slam meet in Kingston. That race is set for 1:51 PM Jamaica time.

Meanwhile, American superstar and Olympic gold medallist Grant Holloway will make his return to the track in the men’s 110 metres hurdles. The three-time world champion is slated to compete at 2:43 PM Jamaica time.
