NWC implements stricter measures for Kingston and St. Andrew customers as drought impacts Constant Spring network

The National Water Commission (NWC) says it’s implementing stricter measures for customers in Kingston and St. Andrew as severe drought conditions continue to impact the Constant Spring network.
This follows water prohibition orders which came into effect a week ago and ban the use of water for non-essential activities.
According to the NWC and the Ministry of Water, the prohibition orders apply to Kingston, St. Andrew, St. Thomas, St. Mary, Portland, St. Ann and St. Catherine and will remain in force until further notice.
It’s reported that two other parishes are expected to be added to the list at the end of this month.
Under the orders, no person shall use or cause water supplied by the NWC to be used for nonessential or unusual purposes.
Offenders will be fined $1000 or face 30 days in prison.
In an update on social media yesterday, the NWC said the stricter measure for citizens in Kingston and St. Andrew aims to conserve available water resources as storage at the Hermitage Dam continues to decline now standing at 31.4% capacity.
It says the adjusted water supply schedule will take effect today and will remain in place until further notice.
The NWC says water will be supplied between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. daily.
The Commission says it will continue to closely monitor dam levels, system performance and prevailing drought conditions and will provide updates as necessary.
