Written byClement Reid

Former President of the Lawyers Christian Fellowship, Helene Coley Nicholson has called on the Government to do right by the island’s teachers.

She made the statement at the Jamaica Teachers’ Association’s 62nd Annual Conference yesterday.

According to Mrs. Nicholson who was the guest speaker, many of the island’s teachers in attendance are concerned about the ongoing wage negotiations.

As such, she urged the Government to do right by teachers so the island’s children can reap the reward.

Mrs. Nicholson also pointed out that the act would among other things improve teacher retention.

She also called for greater effort to prepare schools for the upcoming academic year, especially those damaged by Hurricane Melissa.
