Respected junior track and field coach Michael Carr to receive OD

Veteran National junior track and field coach Michael Carr – the man who laid the foundation of the stellar career of legendary sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser – Pryce- is one of 41 individuals who have been appointed to the Order of Distinction in the Rank of Officer (OD).

Carr, the Wolmer’s High school for girls head coach, has served Jamaica with the highest level of professionalism in several track and field coaching capacities, over the last four decades.

He will receive the award for service in the field of Sports, in particular, Athletics

Recently, he received an award for long and distinguished service to the sport of track and field in the category of – (Lifetime Achievement) , by his colleagues of the Jamaica Track and Field Coaches Association, (JATAFCA).

In the meantime, Carr will join the other recipients of the Order of Distinction, who will be conferred with their respective awards during the Ceremony of Investiture and presentation of National Honours and Awards on National Heroes Day, Monday, October 19, 2026.
