The Democrats’ impending control of both Chambers of the United States Congress will have no impact on Jamaica’s relationship with its North American neighbour.

That is the position of Deputy General Secretary of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), Dr. Andrew Wheatley, who says the longstanding relationship between the two countries will remain unchanged despite the political shift in Washington.

Dr. Wheatley made the declaration during a press briefing at the JLP’s Belmont Road Headquarters this morning.

He was responding to concerns following the Democrats’ victory in the November 3 midterm elections, which will see the Party take control of the House of Representatives and the Senate when the new Congress convenes in January.

Dr. Wheatley maintained that the relationship with the U.S. will remain intact.
