Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness is expected to outline the Government’s broader approach to improving efficiency and accelerating the delivery of national priorities at a press briefing next Tuesday.

October 27 is the eve of the first anniversary of Hurricane Melissa making landfall in Jamaica.

Dr. Holness is expected to respond to concerns following the imposition of an immediate moratorium on non-essential official overseas travel across the public sector until March 31, next year.

The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) says the measure is part of a wider push to strengthen expenditure controls, speed up decision-making and improve service delivery.

In a statement, OPM notes that the Government acknowledges the continuing hardship faced by families who have lost their homes, roofs and livelihoods.

It says restoring stability and accelerating the recovery remain urgent priorities.

The moratorium covers ministries, departments, agencies and public bodies, including travel funded by external sponsors.

Exceptions will be allowed for travel essential to post-Melissa reconstruction and recovery, national security, standing bilateral and multilateral engagements and approved board commitments, tourism promotion and genuine emergencies of compelling national importance.
