The People’s National Party (PNP) says it has taken note of an interim injunction, reportedly granted by the court this morning, which it says prevents a duly convened special meeting of the Clarendon Municipal Corporation from proceeding.
In a statement, the Party said he injunction was allegedly granted ex parte, on the application of the minority mayor and deputy mayor.
This, it said effectively halted a meeting intended to facilitate the election of a mayor and deputy mayor supported by the majority of councillors.
The PNP maintained that it now commands a 12-10 majority at the corporation and argued that leadership of the municipal body should reflect that shift in support.
Today’s injunction, is the latest development in the matter, since the decision by Councillor of the May Pen North Division, Tanyalee Williams to cross over to the PNP.
Her announcement to switch allegiance from the Jamaica Labour Party last Thursday, resulted in an abrupt end to the Corporation’s monthly meeting.
