Traffic Police to place special focus on protecting elderly pedestrians
The Traffic Police say special focus will be placed on protecting elderly pedestrians, as part of efforts to achieve the below 3 hundred road fatalities target.
This as 50 percent of the 33 pedestrians, who have died since the start of the year in road crashes, are between 50 and 70 years old.
Head of the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB) Senior Superintendent Lloyd Darby said church groups will be engaged as part of the public education campaign, to protect people in this age group.
SSP Darby notes that caregivers of elderly persons must be more vigilant with them in public spaces.
He was speaking at the National Road Safety Council press conference in Kingston on Tuesday.
