Death rate from fatal crashes doubles average for year within past week

The death rate resulting from fatal crashes has doubled the average for the year in the last seven days.

This was revealed by Director of the Mona Geo-Informatics Institute at the University of the West Indies, Dr. Parris Lyew-Ayee Junior.

He was speaking this morning at a National Road Safety Council (NRSC) press conference at the Office of the Police Commissioner on Old Hope Road.

Dr. Lyew-Ayee noted that for the past 7 days, a total of 1.71 persons died on the nation’s roads compared to the 0.84 that has been recorded for this year.

He noted that the death rate is climbing as the holiday period in August approaches.

This he pointed out is a cause for concern.
