Energy Ministry commences detailed technical review of JPS reports into June 5 islandwide black out
The Energy Ministry has commenced a detailed technical review of the reports submitted by the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) into the June 5 islandwide black out.
Energy Minister Daryl Vaz today confirmed that the Ministry has received the findings and reports from JPS into the black out that left customers without power for several hours.
Mr. Vaz said the review would be done in collaboration with the office of utilities regulation and other relevant agencies, where appropriate.
According to a Ministry Statement JPS submitted the findings and reports within the stipulated 30-day timeframe in keeping with the Government’s directive.
The Energy Ministry says the OUR has also received the same reports within the prescribed period as part of the regulatory review process.
Mr. Vaz welcomed the timely submission.
He said the Government is committed to ensuring that every aspect of these findings is subjected to a thorough and objective review.
The Minister noted that the priority is to safeguard the public interest, strengthen accountability, and ensure that any lesson arising from this process translate into meaningful improvements in the reliability and resilience of Jamaica’s electricity system.
Mr. Vaz has assured the public that the ministry will continue to keep Jamaicans informed, as the review progresses and that any decision or recommendation arising from the reports will be communicated in a timely
and transparent manner.
