Former PM Bruce Golding calls on global leaders to work together to end “erosion of peaceful international relations”

Former Prime Minister Bruce Golding is calling on leaders across the world to work together to end what he describes as “the continued erosion of the fabric of peaceful international relations”.

Mr. Golding made the appeal while addressing the 14th World Peace Forum at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, on Friday.

He argued that the global architecture is under serious threat, with many countries choosing isolation over collaboration and refraining from negotiated settlement of disputes.

He also noted that the Geneva Convention – the series of international treaties and protocols that form the core of international humanitarian law – is being shredded.

According to Mr. Golding, the recent outbreak of the Ebola virus in parts of Africa may be linked to the massive scaling back of disease surveillance aid to the poorest countries.

He cautioned, however, that the virus does not recognise national boundaries.

This, he said, stresses the importance of collaboration among all countries.
