FWCF says no child deserves to be humiliated due to an examination score

“No child deserves to be humiliated due to an examination score.”
That’s the comment from the FI We Children Foundation (FWCF), following reports that students at Ascot Primary School in St. Catherine were allegedly separated during their graduation ceremony based on their Primary Exit Profile (PEP) examination results.
According to reports, the not “proficient” students were denied the opportunity to wear graduation gowns and were subjected to differential treatment during the ceremony.
The Ministry of Education has since denounced the actions of the school.
The ministry added that the principal, Mark Jackson has expressed regret for the unintended outcomes of the decision which he said was arrived at following a meeting with the parents especially for those who did not meet the criteria to participate in the graduation exercise.
In a statement yesterday, the foundation said the reported treatment of the students was unacceptable.
According to FWCF Youth Policy Committee Chair Sabrina Barnes, the issue highlights possible breaches under the law and urged parents to seek legal advice.
