PM Holness says Jamaica and Guyana to collaborate on housing development

Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness says there are opportunities for Jamaica and Guyana to collaborate on housing development in areas such as new technologies in construction.

Stating that Jamaica, like Guyana, is experiencing a housing boom, Dr. Holness notes that Guyana has reduced the time for approvals for housing from 3 years to 3 months.

Dr. Holness says, in Jamaica, the greatest constraint on the construction of housing solutions was not financial but supply-related.

Dr. Holness said Jamaica has a housing deficit of 150,000 housing solutions, and the government will provide 70,000 with 10,000 solutions completed.

The Prime Minister states that discussions would be held with Guyana on plans to collaborate.

He was speaking last evening, at the opening ceremony of the International Building Expo 2026 in Guyana.
