“Ludicrous!” Water Minister rejects Opposition’s claim that politics is being used to guide distribution of water projects on the island

Water Minister, Mathew Samuda has described as ludicrous, claims from his Opposition counterpart that politics is being used to guide the distribution of water projects on the island.

In Parliament yesterday, Spokesperson on Water and Special Projects, Ian Hayles, referred to Mr. Samuda’s list of 34 projects to be undertaken across Jamaica.

He posited that the majority of the money being spent on the projects were in communities represented by members of the Jamaica Labour Party.

Mr. Samuda brought up the matter during this morning’s post-Cabinet press briefing, stressing that the projects are equally shared.

He also pointed out that three of the largest water projects are in areas represented by members of the parliamentary Opposition.

The Minister also responded to the Spokesperson’s comments about the number of capital projects already completed.

Hayles lamented that of the 13 listed by Samuda, only one has been completed, with nine not even started.
