JUTC offers $1M to anyone who is able to assist the police with apprehending man who allegedly set one of its units ablaze last month
The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) is offering $1 million to anyone who is able to assist the police with apprehending the man who allegedly set one of its units ablaze last month.
The bus was destroyed by fire at approximately 4 p.m.on May 30 at the Spanish Town lay-by.
In the JUTC’s initial report following the incident, it stated that a bus assigned to route 22 pulled into the lay-by, when the bus crew observed sparks coming from a cellphone charging port at the rear of the vehicle.
It said the crew immediately responded and attempted to extinguish the sparks using the on-board fire extinguisher.
However, despite their efforts, a fire developed and engulfed the bus. No one was injured.
Speaking at a press briefing today, JUTC’s Managing Director, Owen Ellington disclosed that, based on CCTV footage, the alleged arsonist is linked to a similar incident in Half Way Tree 2 years ago.
Mr. Ellington is urging members of the public to review the footage and images of the man circulated in the media and contact Crime Stop or the nearest police station if they know his whereabouts or have any information.
