The crew of the United States navy aircraft carrier USS Nimitz is in Jamaica on the final leg of a goodwill deployment and will participate in community initiatives among other activities.
The vessel with 4,000 sailors will be docked at Kingston Harbour until June 5.
This deployment has taken the carrier throughout South America and the Caribbean.
The USS Nimitz is one of the largest naval vessels in the world.
Speaking at a welcoming ceremony today, ChargĂ© d’Affaires at the United States Embassy in Jamaica, Scott Renner says the sailors will be working alongside the Jamaica Defence Force to repair schools that were damaged.
State Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce Aubyn Hill has expressed gratitude that the navy will engage university graduates so they can gain the necessary experience.
